Monday 22.6.2020 - Sun Cream & Hats

Dear Parent/Carers,

As the weather is improving this week and it will be very not.  Please ensure that you have applied suncream to your child before they come in to school each day.

Please also make sure that your child brings in a sun hat.

Monday 22.6.2020 - Sports Day at home

Dear Parents and Carers

We hope you were able to join in and take part in some Sports Day activities last Friday.

Please remember there is a certificate you could print if you are able, it is also available on the school website here:

https://www.greenvale.medway.sch.uk/medway/primary/greenvale/site/pages/sportsday2020

If you were able to join in, and you took any photos of your children taking part, please share them with us at the following email addresses:

Bat and Fox Classes: fs@greenvale.medway.sch.uk

Owl and Rabbit Classes: yr1@greenvale.medway.sch.uk

Badger and Hedgehog Classes: yr2@greenvale.medway.sch.uk

We will share as many as we can on our school website in the next few weeks.

Sports Day 2020

As you may know, we would have been holding Sports Day for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 during June. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to do this altogether this year.

We encouraged you to join in with us , to hold a home-school Sports Day on:

 Friday 19th June 2020.

We took part in the same activities in school.

We hope you had as much fun as we did.

We have pictures over on our Curriculum Enrichment page under the 'June' page.

Use this link or see the tab above.

https://www.greenvale.medway.sch.uk/medway/primary/greenvale/site/pages/eventspage/june

If you have not yet had the chance, perhaps you could hold a Sports Day event at some point in the future.

We would  love to see what you achieved.

You could compete against your family - brothers, sisters, dad, mum, carers, grandparents or even the dog! There are certificates here too however, you can make your own certificates/rosettes/trophies.

Please remember one thing……

This is a fun activity and the main idea is to have FUN AND ENJOY with your family.

You can choose a selection of the activities or could you do all these challenges in a day?

Whichever activities you choose to do, you will get an automatic point, as it is the participation that counts. You’ll also get a chance to win a bonus point. Record your points on a piece of paper.

The certificate and ideas can also be seen and accessed here below. Click the images to download your own copies.

Thursday 11.6.2020 - Home Learning

Good Morning.
Just a reminder to you all that our school website has a range of support and recommended learning activities which you can be using to support your children at home.

'Helping at Home'  has links to Maths, phonics, reading and writing for all ages:

'Helping at Home' has another tab called 'Term 6 learning packs' where you can find the latest packs:
Paper copies are still available for you to come and collect from the school office.

New resources have been added to our 'Phonics' tab:
These include sound, word and spelling resources.

There is also our 'Storytime' tab - and we have been taking requests for stories!

Please continue to keep each other informed of these PING updates, as we know that some people cannot get all of our communications - we appreciate your help with this.
As always, we are here to help with any personal queries you may have about learning at home - please phone in to the school and we will do our best to support you.

Friday 5.6.2020 - plans for Monday 8th June 2020

Please DO NOT come to school on Monday 8th June 2020 if you HAVE NOT had a letter confirming that your child will be taking a place in our class ‘bubble’ provision. If you have any questions about your child returning to school, or your circumstances have changed, please call the school office to discuss this further. We are following government guidelines regarding pupil numbers and hygiene and safety.

We will not be able to accept extra children into our groups until we are given new guidelines about increasing numbers.

If you are choosing to stay at home, please continue to use the home learning packs and resources. If you need printed copies please phone the school office and we can arrange for these to be made available to you. If you have any other questions, again, please call the school and we will do our best to help you.

Those who are returning should follow the guidance letter which was sent home.

Wednesday 3rd June – Year N and R – Bat and Fox and Nursery

We must stress that we are only offering this as part of your time out of the house – we are NOT asking you to make the trip especially.

Friday 22.5.2020 - Re-opening arrangements

By now you will know that we are planning to re-open our school to children in Reception and Year 1 whose parents have told us that they are happy for their children to return to school, and to keyworkers who require it.

Details about the re-opening arrangements for our school are available on the school website under the ‘Coronavirus’ tab.

The school will be closed for the half term break Monday 25th May – Friday 29th May 2020.

School will be closed on Monday 1st June for a Staff Development Day.

School will ONLY be open to key worker and vulnerable children from June 2nd 2020.

School will re-open to children in Reception and Year 1 whose parents have told us that they are happy for their children to return to school from Monday 8th June 2020.

We thank you very much for your continued support during these challenging and ever-changing times!

Wednesday 12.5.2020 - Parent Survey regarding school opening

Good Afternoon.
Please read the attached letter regarding a survey to support us in formulating a plan to re-open the school to children in Nursery, Reception and Year 1.
For any parents you know who may not have access to PING, please could we ask you to let them know.

There is a direct link to this survey on the front page of the school website.

It only needs to be completed once per family.

It is vital that you complete the survey as it will help us plan for the safe return of your children.

Thank you for your help.

Thursday 7.5.2020 'VE Day'

Dear Parents, Carers and Children,

Firstly, thank you for all you are doing at home - we are extremely proud of how everyone has adapted to the changes and continues to do so. Friday May 8th, is a Bank Holiday to coincide with Victory in Europe Day, or VE Day, which marks the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe. Please read the attached letter which has information and ideas about how you could find out more about VE day. Links can also be found on the school website here - scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page

Thursday 23.4.2020 'Phonics help at home'

Please read the attached letter from the Department for Education about help they are offering with phonics at home. They say:

We are pleased to let you know that your child can receive a daily phonics lesson whilst schools are closed. Phonics is the way we teach children to recognise the sounds in words. It helps your child to learn to read and is an essential part of your child’s education. The online lessons are designed to follow the phonics programme your child has been learning at school and are the only online Letters and Sounds lessons approved and funded by the Department for Education.”

The lessons are aimed at Year 1 and Reception.

At Greenvale we follow the Letters and Sounds programme for phonics. We know that all children learn at different rates and that your child may be ahead of, or catching up with, what these videos offer. Please feel free to use them in the way which fits in best with how you are learning from home.

The online lessons will be available from Monday 27th April, and can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP_FbjYUP_UtldV2K_-niWw

There are introduction and explanation videos available now.

You can also register with the following site to access reading books online, on your phone or a tablet, which will help to support your child’s progress with reading.

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/

These links will also be available on the school website under the ‘Helping at Home’ tab.

Monday 20.4.2020 'Term 5 learning grids'

We have updated the school website with term 5 learning packs for all of the children.

Please go to our 'Helping at Home' tab, where you will find a dropdown section labelled 'Term 5 learning packs'.

This page has activities for all year groups from Nursery to Year 2.

If you are able to you can download the grids to save or print.

We have also made them visible on the website page so that you can read the activity tasks from the screen without the need to print them out.

Monday 20.4.2020 'Department for Education - update Sunday 19th April 2020'

You may be aware from the news and government updates of the following information regarding school closures - please read carefully - thank you.

Schools will remain closed until further notice, except for children of critical workers and vulnerable children who are encouraged to attend where it is appropriate for them to do so. We will only re-open schools when the scientific advice indicates it is safe to do so, and will consult closely with the sector on our approach.

It is important to underline that schools, all childcare settings (including early years settings, childminders and providers of childcare for school-age children), colleges and other educational establishments, remain safe places for children. Reducing the number of children making the journey to school, and reducing the number of children in educational settings, will protect the NHS and save lives by reducing the risks of spreading the virus.

Schools, and all childcare providers, are therefore being asked to continue to provide care for a limited number of children - children who are vulnerable, and children whose parents are critical to the coronavirus (COVID-19) response.

Tuesday 31.3.2020 'Work books'

Hello all!
A few of us have been busy in the school this week and we have found some  workbooks which will be of more use to you at home than us here in school at the moment.
They will be available for you to come and collect from the school drive for the rest of this week. 9:30am - 1:30pm

Wednesday 1st April – Year N and R – Bat and Fox and Nursery
Thursday 2nd April – Year 1 – Rabbit and Owl
Friday 3rd April – Year 2 – Badger and Hedgehog

We have plenty for everyone.
If you come up to collect anything, we must ask you to stick to the government's strict guidelines about leaving the house – see below.
You should only leave the house for very limited purposes:
•    shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible.
•    one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household.
•    any medical need, including to donate blood, avoid or escape risk of injury or harm, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.
•    travelling for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home.
These reasons are exceptions - even when doing these activities, you should be minimising time spent outside of the home and ensuring you are 2 metres apart from anyone outside of your household.

We must stress that we are only offering this as part of your limited travel/exercise – we are NOT asking you to make the trip especially.

Wednesday 25.3.2020 'Maths at home'

Mrs Wilder has kindly provided the following information for you all for maths you can be doing at home.
The link  can  be found on our website under the 'Helping at Home' tab.

"For all year groups - this link will take you to the planning and lessons we follow in school for maths. They have very kindly set up a daily video lesson plus worksheet to complete, from Early Years through to Year 8. There's also a daily online session from 10am - 11am where you can interact on Facebook and Twitter or email mathshelp@whiterosemaths.com with questions and share solutions. Great to keep children engaged and involved in maths!"

Tuesday 24.3.2020 'Tuesday update'

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE INFORMATION  - Tuesday 24th March

Please see the school website for the latest updates regarding the current situation for the school.
These measures have never been seen before and highlight how serious these are. Stay at home, Protect the NHS, Save lives.

The position of the emergency childcare in school is still in place for those who absolutely need it. Only those key workers whose work is critical to the COVID-19 response should put their children and our staff at risk. If you can keep your child at home, please do so.

Update letter

Thursday 19.3.2020 'Working at home'

Dear Parents and Carers,

Work packs are being provided today for children.

They are not an exhaustive list or set of resources, they give an indication of the kind of work your child could be doing with you at home.

Our school website has a tab named ‘Helping at home’. This has links to useful online learning resources which will be of great benefit to you.

https://www.greenvale.medway.sch.uk/medway/primary/greenvale

If you are self-isolating, you could ask a friend, colleague or family member to collect a pack of work from the front office. They can then safely put this through your front door. Let them know which year group your child is in.

Keep safe, and know that as a school and a community, we are thinking of you all.

Mrs Allnutt
