Newsletter Term 1 -  17th October 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to half term!  The children have begun the year in wonderful form.  Thank you to those of you able to come and see your child's teachers this week for parents evening - it is such an important part of supporting your child to be able to share information together. We are pleased with how all of the school  have settled in to their new year groups and classes and are working very hard to achieve their new targets.  Some of the wonderful things I have seen have included; our older children supporting our younger children with their reading and maths as part of our buddy system; children helping each other around the school , showing respect for each other and valuing friendships.  All of which are part of our '6R's' for learning.

I would like to take this opportunity to give Mr Poole, our Y3 classteacher, and his fiancee best wishes and luck on behalf of the Greenvale community for their  wedding this weekend!

And finally, we are sadly saying thank you and  goodbye to Mrs Perrin today. She is off to start new adventures.

Have a wonderful break, we look forward to seeing everyone back for Term 2 on Monday 3rd November.

Best wishes,

Mrs Allnutt

Headteacher

Remembering Woody

2nd July 2016 – 22nd September 2025

Woody began his work as a Dog Mentor at 12 weeks old and gave all his nine years to working as a therapy dog. In that time, he has been a companion to the pupils and staff, as well as being a much loved, family pet. Woody also raised his fellow Dog Mentors Luna and Mabel, showing them what it meant to be a companion to our pupils.

In his time, Woody has met Ofsted, watched chicks hatch with the pupils, spent hours in the woodland exploring with the pupils and spent many happy, cosy moments snuggled by their feet as they worked. He has listened to stories, sniffed their amazing work and checked pockets in the hope of a biscuit.

Woody did amazing things such as give pupils who find it hard to talk the confidence to use their voice, or help distressed and angry souls to feel calm again. However, he also made the everyday things shine and it was often the gentle stroke as he passed or the smiles he received as he walked up to people, the resting of his head on a knee or the feel of his wet nose in your ear that made his presence truly felt.

Thank you, beautiful Woody.

PE kit

We have seen a huge improvement in the numbers of children in correct PE kit this term.

White top - black/dark bottoms - trainers - green school jumper

Being ready for learning and in uniform plays a valuable role in promoting a positive and focused learning environment.

Language Angels, the program we use for teaching Spanish in Key Stage 2 have relaunched an app called GLURBS which uses the same trusted methods - but in a ‘learning through play’, interactive format kids will love to use at home!

A lot of free-to-play options on the app, and an offer price of £1.99 because we are a school that subscribes.

Further details are to be emailed home separately.

A reminder to use your Numbots and Times Tables Rock Stars accounts to support your children's maths progress, and to have some fun!

They can go online over the October break.

There are 2 ways to access TTRockStars and Numbots - via a website link OR in an app. Whichever suits you best.

Children use the same login for both of the sites.

Coats & Warm Clothing

  • Please ensure that when your child returns to school after the October half-term that they have a warm coat with them every day.
  • If your child wears boots to school, they will need to bring a change of shoes to wear as we do not have them wear boots in school.

Thank you
