Term 6 - 10th June 2022

Newsletter - Term 6 - 10th June 2022

Dear Parent/Carers,

Term 6 - and what a busy one it is going to be! Please take note of all the events we have planned for the children this term - we keep our calendar of events up-to-date and aim to email out specific date reminders to you all.

E-Safety is something which we teach in school through specific lessons, but also an area that we come back to and talk about daily in our use of computers and online apps.

We know that families have a vast range of ages and children, and that sometimes our younger children have access to apps and games that may not be age appropriate. It can be awkward and difficult to talk about topics such as grooming or explicit content or to restrict our children from something that 'all their friends' are using.  Talking openly about these subjects is a great way to help your child feel more comfortable about coming to you if they experience an unwanted encounter online.

Please visit our E-Safety page here or go via the website, for more information and support.

Please remember that we are always here should you need any advice or support.

Pupils at Greenvale Primary receive a £1,000 brilliant box of books from Read for Good

From football heroes to time travellers in faraway galaxies, the children at Greenvale have received a massive boost to their reading adventures in the form of £1,000 worth of books for fun from the children’s charity, Read for Good.

Mrs Powlesland applied for the charity’s new ‘Brilliant Box of Books’ scheme containing some 150 titles aimed at children in Y4 and above, ranging from graphic novels to the latest series’ and firm favourites.

Read for Good has motivated millions of children since 1984 to read for fun through its sponsored read in schools, with Roald Dahl being a former chair. The national charity has given £1 million worth of book vouchers to schools in partnership with Scholastic Book Clubs since 2010. Now a new programme to fill a particular gap in the provision of reading for fun books to schools in need is being rolled out by the Gloucestershire-based charity.

Read for Good's chief executive, Justine Daniels said: “Our mission at Read for Good is to support children to love reading, but with school libraries still not statutory and schools reporting book stock decimated by the pandemic, we have a real concern that this generation - more than any other - will struggle to access the brilliant books that could hook them into reading, even during this golden age of children’s literature.”

“We want our children to find books nestled on our library’s shelves that will become lifelong favourites and help spark or reinvigorate that love of reading, which will set them up in so many ways. Books can show children other worlds and possibilities, encouraging them to dream big. It is really important that we have appealing, attractive modern titles that will grab their attention. This box of books really is a lifeline.”

The new programme has been funded by Trusts and Foundations and supported by Scholastic Book Clubs.

Book Fair

On Wednesday 15th & Thursday 16th June, we have a book fair taking place in school.

It will be held in the school hall from 3pm to 3.45pm.

Why not stock up on summer reading for your little ones or start your Christmas shopping early!!

For every £10.00 spent the school will get £6.00 back from Usbornes to use towards resources. Every little bit really does help the school.

Upcoming School Trips

Polite reminder. If you haven't yet paid towards your child's upcoming school trip this term, please speak to the school office.

Please always bear in mind that If we fall short with payments, and uptake for any trip it might be that the trip cannot go ahead.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Late arrival to school and non-attendance

Both of these have a huge impact on your child's education.

Being at few minutes late into the classroom after all the other children have settled down, and feeling like everyone is watching you, this can be very unsettling for a child.

The positive impact that regular attendance has on a child reaching their full academic potential and the benefits this brings to emotional and social well-being. The school’s expectation for pupil’s attendance is at least 96%.

Summer Term Reminder

Please remember the following:

  • Apply suncream before your child comes to school.
  • Bring a sun hat to protect your head.
  • Always have a water bottle.
  • Closed toe footwear must always been worn to school, including socks.

Children's Achievements outside of School

Please remember to send in your trophies, awards, medals, badges and achievements - we love to share these with each other in school.

Phonics Screening

This has taken place in the first week of term 6 for all children in Year 1 and some children in Year 2. Information for this can be found on the letters' page of the school website. Mop up sessions will take place for those children that were absent.

Dates for your diary!

Lots going on this term, so please keep checking the website.
