Book Week News Special - 4th March 2022

Greenvale Book Week

We have had a wonderful week exploring reading more than we usually do, with a focus on 'bedtime stories'.

Bedtime stories

You brought over 100 stories into school for us to share this week!

We have all loved sharing each other's bedtime favourites - it has taken us all week to read them!

Story Swaps

On Wednesdays this term, we are swapping teachers for story time after lunch.

This week, Miss Platt read to Hedgehog Class, Miss Alcock read to Bat Class, Mrs Whale read to Badger Class and Mrs Wilder read to Owl Class.

Pyjama Day!

We celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 3rd March by coming to school ready for our bedtime stories!

We spent all day finding out more about our favourite books, reading and sharing together.

We had a special assembly in the afternoon where we found out which bedtime stories had been voted as class favourites.

Our Favourite Bedtime Stories:

Nursery: Kitchen Disco

Reception: Aliens Love Underpants

Year 1: Giraffes Can't Dance

Robins:We're Going On A Bear Hunt

Year 2 (Badger Class): The Nutcracker

Year 2 (Hedgehog Class): The Gigantosaurus

Helping at home

Reading Eggs:

We love to share the children's certificates of achievement in our Friday celebration assembly.

Reading books:

Our reading books are designed to support the children with independent reading and decoding. Practising their out loud reading skills as much as possible will have huge benefits for them.

Who will our Star Readers be this week?

Local Libraries:

We are very excited that next term we will be borrowing special boxes of books to support our learning, put together for us by the staff at Chatham Library. We will also be rolling out library cards and membership for all children, to be able to go along to any Medway library to borrow books.

School Library:

Our own library is being sorted, with an updated lending system - over the next couple of weeks we will be making arrangements for the children to begin borrowing from our school library once a week for a book of their choice.

Book Sale

Thank you to our PTA for organising a book sale this week - So many ways for us all to enjoy reading at home! We hope everyone was able to find an extra book to enjoy for bedtimes!
