Greenvale Nursery News

We have had a busy few terms together in nursery. We have welcomed new friends into our class, and we have enjoyed getting to know each other.

Reading

We would like to thank all of you who have been reading regularly with your child and returning their books. We read throughout the week and new books are sent home on a Friday. We encourage the children to choose a book for themselves and sometimes children will choose the same books over and over again.

The skills children gain from rereading a favourite story are very important. If your see the same book coming home try some of these things:

  • Let your child tell the story for themselves.
  • Change one of the characters, maybe put your child in the story.
  • Make a puppet or a picture of your favourite part of the story.
  • Add or change some words ro make it more interesting i.e. instead of Brown Bear, why not say Dark Brown Bear or Big Brown Bear.

Focus Pupil Feedback Forms

Thank you to those of you who have been returning the focus pupil forms.

These are very useful to us in understanding your children better. We have noticed a lot of parents asking questions about writing, counting and number recognition. I have sent home the overview of the 7 areas of learning for 3 and 4 year olds. This will give you an idea of the types of things that your child will be learning and the skills they are rehearsing through play. In nursery, we focus on the prime areas of learning first as these build the foundations for the other curriculum areas.

Things to remember

  • Children starting school in September will find out their school place on the 19th April. Please inform Mrs Hall of your child's school place, particularly if they are not starting Reception at Greenvale.
  • Children return to school on Wednesday 20th April.
  • We are going to be thinking about staying healthy and as part of this we are going to be thinking about our teeth.
  • We would like to have an extreme tooth brushing competition. Please could you find the strangest place or funniest way to brush your child's teeth and send a picture to nursery@greenvale.medway.sch.uk

Finally, have a lovely Easter Break. Stay safe and enjoy some wonderful family time. Please feel free to send photos of your Easter Adventures to Mrs Hall nursery@greenvale.medway.sch.uk
